vSphere 6.7 ICM – Topic 4.6 – Create custom inventory tags

You create custom inventory to categorize your inventory and objects in vSphere environment. You can use these tags when search any object in inventory.

1. Create Custom Inventory Tags

Steps to Create Custom Tag: –

  • Login to vCenter Server using Web Client or HTML Client.
  • Go to Menu Option and Click on Tags & Custom Attributes.

  • Tags & Custom Attributes page will appear.
  • Go to Tags and Click on + icon.

  • Give name of Custom tag. I;e I have created a tag of Windows 7 and others as shown below.

  • Create a New Category by clicking on Create new Category.

  • I created a new category of Operating Systems and will keep tag of Windows 7 under this category.

  • Windows 7 custom tag has been created.

  • Similarly I created other tags and categories.

2. Edit Custom Inventory Tags

Steps to Edit Custom Tag: –

  • Login to vCenter Server using Web Client or HTML Client.
  • Go to Menu Option and Click on Tags & Custom Attributes.

  • Go to Tags, Select a tag you want to Edit.
  • Click on Pencil Icon.

  • Edit anything as per your requirement.

  • Tag has been Edited successfully.

3. Delete Custom Inventory Tags

Steps to Delete Custom Tag: –

  • Login to vCenter Server using Web Client or HTML Client.
  • Go to Menu Option and Click on Tags & Custom Attributes.

  • Go to Tags and select a tag you want to delete.
  • Click on X icon to delete tag.

  • Tag has been deleted successfully.
